How To Keep Cool This Summer

The summer months tend to affect us in a number of ways with the longer days, more social engagements, irregular eating habits, warm weather and harsh sun.  All of these factors can affect our skin and (nervous systems!)  Excess fire can flare up in the summer in our bodily systems: irritability, skin inflammation, acid indigestion, burnout/fatigue and broken sleep are all signs that your internal fire can be out of balance.

One of the most important tips to adhere to during the summer is: stay hydrated.  Sipping water regularly is so important to keeping cool, calm and collected and in flow in what can be a taxing time of year.  Opting for sweet seasonal juicy fruits such as melon, stonefruits, grapes or berries will also help you feel hydrated and give your skin a rosy and plump glow.

Below is a quick and easy dish to prepare to keep you and your skin cool and hydrated this summer season.

Cucumber and Herb Salad

1 cucumber, cubed or sliced (you can opt to peel off the skin if you like)

½ bunch of fresh dill, chopped finely

4 sprigs of mint, finely chopped

½ bunch of fresh coriander, finely chopped

juice of 1 lime or grapefruit

pinch of quality salt

drizzle of your favourite olive, hemp or avocado oil

Toss well and serve.  Great to pair with your favourite BBQ items such as fish or meat this summer or add a sprinkling of nuts like hemp, sunflower or pepitas if you are vegetarian.
